She told how exciting it was to reflect on the amount of change she’s seen and that her twenty-year tenure at SEPA began when there were no grid-connected solar projects and a PV project was “considered massive at 50kw.” In describing her work with the Clean Energy Leader- ship Institute (CELI), which focuses on developing leader- ship roles in the industry, she told the audience, “You are not the leaders of the clean energy industry. You are the future leaders of the energy industry which will be clean ,” in order to empha- size how the energy paradigm has changed. Hamm described how “car- bon-free is the new model... our goal” and cited statistics demonstrating acceptance with examples like “One in four people live in a community committed to a transition to 100 percent clean renewable energy.” “Forty-three utilities have made a public commitment to carbon reduction. Sixty-nine percent of customer accounts are served by a utility with a goal of carbon reduc- tion, and fifteen utilities aim to be carbon free by 2050.” She reminded conference attendees that they all “need to meet our promises and goals so oth- ers can meet theirs.” SEIA’s Ross Hopper explained why this is the Solar+ Decade: “It will mean a total shift in how we generate and consume energy in this country. It is going to be a war and not a battle to lead this energy market.” She described the effort SEIA has undertaken to obtain multiple ITC extensions: “We are fight- North America Smart EnergyWeek Today is published three days annually by Solar Energy Trade Shows, LLC, 225 Reinekers Lane, Suite 680 | Alexandria, VA 22314 | (703) 738-9460 | Fax (202) 403-3212 © 2019 Solar Energy Trade Shows, LLC.
